Don Doran, Head of School

A dynamic leader with nearly 35 years of successful educational experience, Mr. Doran joined Drew as the Head of School in 2009. He is committed to ensuring each child realizes his or her full potential.
Mr. Doran joined Drew from Outward Bound Atlanta, where, as Executive Director, he increased the annual number of students served from 48 to nearly 9,500 in just four years. Previously, he served as Executive Director for an Atlanta Public Schools’ Reform Team consisting of 25 elementary and middle schools. He has a remarkable record of improving student achievement, particularly during his terms as Principal at Atlanta’s Benteen Elementary School and Inman Middle School. He began his career as a teacher and coach.
Mr. Doran holds a Bachelor’s degree from Taylor University, as well as Master’s and specialist’s degrees from Georgia State University.
Monishae O’Neill, Principal, Elementary Academy

Mrs. O’Neill is a career educator with more than twenty years of experience. She joined Drew Charter School in July 2013 as the Elementary Academy Dean of Students and has served as the Interim Principal from April-May 2016. During her time at Drew Charter School, she has worked collaboratively with staff to ensure effective instructional programming, evaluated teacher performance and provided meaningful feedback, monitored student behavior, and worked with parents and other stakeholders to maintain a strong community.
Prior to her employment at Drew Charter School, Mrs. O’Neill was the Director of Pre-AP English Curriculum and Content Development for The College Board, the Director of Literacy, Social Studies and World Languages for Atlanta Public Schools and held various classroom teaching roles.
Mrs. O’Neill is pursuing a Ph.D. in Middle Secondary and Instructional Technology, Language and Literacy from Georgia State University, holds a Masters in English Education from New York University and a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education from Spelman College, as well as several other educational certifications.
Mrs. O’Neill and her husband live in the Kirkwood neighborhood and have three children who attend Drew Charter School Elementary Academy.
Gregory Leaphart, Principal, Junior Academy

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Mr. Leaphart attended undergraduate school at Dillard University in New Orleans, LA. He attended graduate school at Troy University. He has worked with the Middle Grade Learner for over 20 years in the Atlanta Public School System and has been an administrator for the past 8 years.
Peter McKnight, Principal, Senior Academy

Mr. McKnight is the Founding Principal of the Drew’s Senior Academy. As Principal of Drew Charter School Senior Academy, McKnight oversees the high school’s curriculum, teacher development and leads a student body that will ultimately grow to 600 students. Mr. McKnight drives student achievement at the Senior Academy with a constant focus on college and career readiness.
McKnight holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University.
