Enrolling at Drew Charter School

Thank you for your interest in Drew Charter School. Drew is a public charter school that serves students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in the Atlanta Public Schools district. To be eligible to attend Drew, a parent/guardian of a prospective student must submit an application during the annual  lottery application window. Seats are awarded by lottery in order of the school’s enrollment priorities.

Drew uses a weighted lottery to increase the likelihood of serving more students from economically disadvantaged families. This is in alignment with Drew’s strategic plan and charter, which aims to serve a mixed-income population. See Drew’s enrollment policies for additional information.

Lottery Application

The lottery application window for the 2023-2024 school year is February 1, 2023 through April 30, 2023. To be included in the lottery, all applications must be submitted within this window. 


If you are interested in adding your student onto the waitlist for the current school year (2022-2023), you may submit a post-lottery application. All eligible post-lottery applications will be placed at the end of their priority within the existing waitlist in the order in which they are received. The 2022-2023 waitlist will be scrapped at the end of the 2022-2023 school year.  If your student is not called off the waitlist, you must submit a new 2023-2024 application for your student to be included in the 2023-2024 lottery. 

The Lottery

All qualifying applications that were received during the application window will be included in a lottery held on May 4th, 2023. The lottery will take place virtually at 6 p.m. This page will be updated ahead of that date to include the link for families wishing to view the live lottery. You do not need to attend the virtual lottery for your student to be included in the lottery or to receive the results. 

Each applicant will be anonymously identified by a lottery identification number (ID). Depending on the communications preference you select when submitting your student's application, your student's ID number will be emailed and/or texted to you the day before the lottery. 

Lottery Results and Enrollment

All qualifying applications will either be seated or placed on a waitlist in the lottery. Uncertified lottery results will be posted on this website by close of business on May 5, 2023. Once Drew’s certified public accounting firm, Warren Averett, certifies the results they will be considered final and acceptance/waitlist emails will be send. This will happen no later than May 12, 2023.  Acceptance emails will include detailed information about next steps for enrollment, including instructions for the submission of all required documents outlined in the Enrollment Checklist. After the initial enrollment period has ended, seats will begin to be offered to students on the waitlist on a rolling basis based on available space.
