Charter Renewal & JA Principal Selection

Dear Drew Families:

I wanted to take a moment to share two important updates with you about our school.  First, we are pleased to announce that this morning the Georgia State Board of Education approved a five-year renewal of Drew Charter School’s Charter.  The State Board’s approval was the final step in Drew’s charter renewal process.  With the approval, the charter renewal is effective starting with the upcoming 2022 – 2023 school year through the 2026 – 2027 school year.  We thank all stakeholders in the Drew Community for supporting us through the charter renewal process.

Secondly, we wanted to inform you that we’ve hired our next Junior Academy principal, Ms. Cynthia Gunner.  Ms. Gunner joins us from Peyton Forest Elementary, here in Atlanta, where she has been the principal for six years.  Before that, she had a strong middle school background as a teacher and instructional coach.  We are excited that Ms. Gunner is already closely connected to the Drew Community as her daughter was a graduate of Drew’s Class of 2020.  You may click here to view Ms. Gunner’s full announcement.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Gunner to Drew as our new JA Principal starting in July 2022.  Our current JA Principal, Ms. Ali-Ferguson, and Ms. Gunner are coordinating a smooth transition and planning various opportunities for Ms. Gunner to meet our students, JA families, and staff.

We are most grateful for your ongoing support!

For the Love of Drew,

Peter McKnight
